  • Teens (aged 12 to 18)
  • Young adults (aged 19 to 25)
  • Adults
  • Parents of teens and young adults

Reach out to me if:

You want to delve deeper into who you truly are and find the courage to live fully as your most authentic self

You want to come out to your parents, but are worried about how they might receive it due to cultural norms

You’re a first- or second-generation immigrant who is ready to heal the cycle of generational trauma.

You’re craving realness and

authenticity in your mental health treatment

You’re struggling with depression and/or

anxiety and your identity issues are making those things even harder

Your child has come out to you and you want to learn how to support them in the best way possible

You're just starting to figure out where fit in the world -- and you're feeling a little bit lost.

You feel like you've been forced to hide who you really are because of cultural norms

You are at a crossroads in terms of your faith and you’d like some guidance to navigate your spirituality

Although I love working with people of all ages, backgrounds, and identities, it’s the LGBTQ+ community who inspired my practice’s name: Be Yourself.

I’m passionate about helping you come out of hiding – whatever that looks like for you – and live proudly as the fullest version of yourself.

Affirmative therapy

I believe that we are all equal in terms of our humanity, regardless of where we come from.

But I also understand on a deeply personal level that systemically, not all of us are treated as equals. I created BYT to be everyone’s safe place – a place where you can come and know that you’ll never have to hide your true self away.

Therapy with me means always feeling safe to express your true self. It means having a place where your experiences of trauma and oppression are always believed –

where your thoughts and feelings are held up as the sacred resources they are.

If you can relate, let's work together.

Acceptance and respect always lie at the heart of my work as a therapist.

That means that whoever you are

– whatever you’re going through –

I see and honor you for your true self.

I help people find healing through identity and truth. I want to walk alongside you in this self-exploration journey you’re on and stand with you as you challenge your inner critic (and maybe outer critics as well!)

It won't always be easy.

But while the journey may have its challenges, it's important to remember that personal growth is a process. At times, you might encounter obstacles, but we'll navigate them together.

I’ll help you embrace your emotions and find your way forward – and we’ll probably even learn to laugh at ourselves along the way.

Have more questions about the treatment approaches that I work with?

  • First and foremost, I am an identity-affirmative therapist. I make this clear here so that everyone knows that they will be safe with me regardless of their gender or sexual identity.

Identity-affirmative therapy is an approach that validates and supports every aspect of an individual’s identity, whether that’s their gender, sexual orientation, or another identity.

Through identity-affirmative therapy, I strive to create a safe environment to help you explore and express your identity while also addressing your mental health.

  • Through cognitive-behavioral therapy or CBT, I help you take a good, honest look at how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected – and where you can make active changes to feel better.

For example, we might look together at how certain thought patterns you have could make you feel more depressed. CBT has been found to be very effective for depression and anxiety in the research literature.

  • I’m highly trained in acceptance and commitment therapy, which uses mindfulness and other approaches to help you reach acceptance about even the hardest things in life.

Acceptance doesn’t mean forgetting, and it definitely doesn’t mean that you enjoy these painful experiences. It just means that you understand that some things are out of our control, and we can either continue fighting a losing battle or learn to understand and accept.

  • Culturally-trained therapy is all about understanding how each one of our cultural identities and experiences contribute to our lives and well-being.

Mental health doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Healing doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It’s critical to see and understand cultural context to truly understand and help a person.

I feel this on a personal and professional level. Culturally-informed therapy can look like taking apart generational and historical trauma and healing from its effects. It can also look like discussing how your family’s cultural beliefs influence how they view you and accept (or not accept) your identity.

  • I am a believer, and I know how much of an influence spirituality and scripture have had on my life. Using faith-based therapy, we will explore your relationship with your Higher Power (whoever or whatever that may be), and talk about how you can strengthen that relationship.

If you identify as Christian, we can discuss Scripture and how those teachings play a role in your mental health – while still maintaining an evidence-based psychological approach.
